August 12, 2021: The Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI), representing the majority of healthcare providers in the country, has given an award to Madurai’s Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Centre (MMHRC) for excellence in Covid management. The ‘AHPI Award 2021 for Excellence in Covid Management’ has been conferred in recognition of the hospital’s adoption of innovative technologies to provide a safe hospital environment for everyone and the use of effective protocols for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
The Award was presented at a function organized by AHPI held in the presence of Dr. Ravi P. Singh, Secretary-General, Quality Council of India, and Dr. Abhijat Sheth, President, National Board of Examinations. Mr. J. Adel, General Manager - Operation, Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Centre (MMHRC), Madurai, received the award on behalf of the hospital.
Said Dr. S Gurushankar, Chairman, Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Centre, Madurai: “We are deeply honored and delighted to receive the AHPI award for all the work we as an institution have been doing to keep our patients and staff safe, ever since the pandemic began. Covid-19 is the biggest healthcare challenge faced by the world, and I am glad that our contributions towards effective Covid management have been recognized by an influential representative body like the AHPI. This inspires everyone at our hospital to constantly improve patient safety and treatment protocols, as the pandemic is far from over and new virulent strains of Coronavirus continue to emerge.”
Talking about COVID-19 care strategies at the hospital, Dr. Gurushankar said that, “ MMHRC upholds the twin objectives of providing a safe infection-free environment for everyone and improving healthcare outcomes for patients. COVID-19 is a highly infectious disease. 10% of all healthcare workers across the country end up contracting the infection themselves. We have been focused on providing the highest possible protection to our workers and patients through a unique six-stage ultra-safety program. In addition, we are among the very few hospitals in India which are using advanced robotic technology to protect people from COVID.”
“The ‘Six-Stage Ultra Safety Program’ at the hospital ensures contactless detection of potential carriers of the Covid-19 virus, 100% sterilization of indoors, and minimal physical contact while providing healthcare services. The safety program creates redundant layers of protection against the virus so that all in-patients and outpatients can receive, and our doctors and staff can provide, healthcare services without any fear. To ensure contactless patient service, the hospital deploys robots to deliver food and medicines to in-patients. It has also pressed into service Teledoc’ mobile telemedicine robots for remote clinical examinations, diagnosis, and monitoring of health parameters of out-patients and in-patients. These robots have the capabilities to carry out basic clinical examinations on their own, as instructed by the doctors. They can also enhance patient relations, as they are fitted with cameras and display monitors to enable patient-doctor interaction.
For 100% sterilization, the hospital uses Shield 30, a disruptive water-based antimicrobial surface treatment technology from New Zealand. It provides 99.99% protection from surface-borne infection of Coronaviruses and a host of other pathogens.
In addition, MMHRC uses all three types of advanced technologies for COVID-19 testing, including Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), True Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (Tru NAAT), and Cartridge Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (CB NAAT). All these have arguably made MMHRC the safest hospital in India today.” said Dr. Gurushankar.
