HARMAN Announces Extending Support to Rahman’s ‘Sunshine Orchestra’ Project for the fifth consecutive year

MARCH, 2019, NEW DELHI, INDIA – HARMAN, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced its sponsorship of Delhi Capitals, one of the key teams participating in the T20 Cricket Indian Premier League 2019, through its popular audio brand JBL.
The association was announced at a friendly cricket match held between Delhi Capitals and JBL Sunshiners - a team of young, talented musicians from KM Music Conservatory (KMMC) and the ‘Sunshine Orchestra’ - mentored and supported by Academy Award winner - A. R. Rahman and his Foundation.
JBL is the official sponsor of Delhi Capitals team and has secured branding rights for the team’s merchandise and promotional activities for the ongoing season. This new partnership offers JBL an opportunity to reach and connect with millions of cricket lovers across the world.
Delhi Capital’s marquee players including Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, and team Captain Shreyas Iyer participated in today’s match and played against the young JBL Sunshiners. HARMAN also announced extending its existing sponsorship of A.R. Rahman’s ‘The Sunshine Orchestra’ project for the fifth consecutive year in India. The program is designed to impart free music education to talented children from less privileged backgrounds.

ABOUT THE SUNSHINE ORCHESTRA PROJECT AND KMMC :KM Music Conservatory (KMMC for short) is the first institution of its kind in India, established in 2008 by the A.R. Rahman Foundation. Situated in brand new, state-of-the-art facilities at the heart of Chennai’s film and music industry, the college offer a range of part-time and full-time courses in Hindustani and Western classical music and music technology.
The brainchild of the maestro himself, the Sunshine Orchestra project at KMMC has identified, selected and trained more than 100 students from economically underserved sections of the society; otherwise having no access to music instruments, training or guidance. These students have undergone rigorous training on western classical music from various legends in the field. The project aims to train more than 200 such students in the next two years. HARMAN has been supporting this worthy cause for the last five years in India.
ABOUT DELHI CAPITALS :The Delhi Capitals is one of the eight founding teams that plays in the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL). Co-owned by the GMR Group and the JSW Group, Delhi Capitals was established in 2008 as Delhi Daredevils before embracing a new avatar in December 2018. The Delhi Capitals has a home in the Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium. Currently coached by Australian legend Ricky Ponting, the Delhi Capitals have made the semifinals of the competition on two occasions - in 2008 and 2009, even topping the table in the latter edition.
