Dolby Atmos to enhance sonic experience of D-Day
Dolby
Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB) announced that the upcoming thriller movie
from India, D-Day will release with Dolby® Atmos™ in select theatres on July 19,
2013. Dolby Atmos is the new audio platform that revolutionizes sound in cinemas
by delivering a more natural and realistic sound-field for audiences.
“It has been a great experience to add a new dimension to my movie with Dolby Atmos. We wanted the soundtrack of the movie to be as immersive and real as it can be. This revolutionary technology helps dramatically improve the audio experience by creating real immersive soundscapes. I believe viewers will be delighted with the enhanced surround sound experience thanks to Dolby Atmos as it raises the bar for effective storytelling,” said Nikhil Advani, Director, D-Day.
Directed by Nikhil Advani, the film stars Arjun Rampal, Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Huma Qureshi and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles. The sound designer for the movie is Manoj Sikka, and the Dolby Atmos version of movie was mixed at FutureWorks Media's new Dolby Atmos Stage - the first mix studio in the country to be certified as a Dolby Premier Studio. D-Day will bring a powerful new listening experience to the cinema with more realistic sound that truly envelops the audience.
Talking at the event Pankaj Kedia, Country Manager, Dolby Laboratories India said, “At Dolby, we are passionate about providing filmmakers and storytellers with innovative technologies and tools to help them create the most engaging cinematic experiences. By delivering a more natural sound experience, Dolby Atmos will help draw D-Day audiences into the story as never before by moving sound around and above them, transporting them into the movie."
About Dolby Atmos
Dolby Labs is equipping the cinema world with its new Dolby
Atmos technology. Dolby Atmos unleashes the potential of sound in storytelling
by providing sound experts the creative freedom to easily place or move specific
sounds anywhere in the movie theatre, not just where there happen to be
speakers. The result is what moviegoers have described as the most engaging and
life-like cinema sound experience ever.
Introduced in April 2012, Dolby Atmos has been embraced by
major studios, award-winning directors and sound teams, and leading exhibitors
worldwide. More than 50 films around the world have been released or are
scheduled to be released with Dolby Atmos sound since the first film was
released in June 2012. In 2013, the Cinema Audio Society gave Dolby Atmos its
coveted Technical Achievement Award for Post Production.
