Chief Guest at the 58th AGM of the
Indo-German Chamber of Commerce




The 58th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) was held at a South Mumbai five star hotel recently in the presence of Chief Guest, Hon’ble Dr. Raghuram Rajan, Governor, Reserve Bank of India and Guest of Honour, H.E. Michael Steiner, German Ambassador to India. The topic of this year’s AGM was “Vocational Skills Development and Vocational Training”. Prior to the AGM, the IGCC organized, in the same hotel - “Trained in Germany Mumbai 2014”, the first ever Indo-German Job Fair and Conference to be held in Mumbai.





In the presence of over 500 members the new office-bearers of the IGCC for the year 2014-2015 were announced:
1. President – Dr. Tapan Singhel, Managing Director & CEO Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co. Ltd.
2. Vice President – Mr. Hubert Reilard, Managing Director, EFD Induction Private Limited, Bangalore,
3. Honorary Treasurer - Mr. Frank Koenig, Managing Director, Illies Engineering (India) Pvt. Ltd.




Hon’ble RBI Governor, Dr. Rajan along with Ambassador Steiner and Mr. Bernhard Steinruecke, Director General of the IGCC inaugurated the Product Display Exhibition by 30  IGCC member companies before the start of the AGM. The outgoing President, Dr. Armin Bruck, gave the Welcome Address followed by speeches by Hon’ble RBI Governor, Dr. Rajan, Ambassador Steiner,  Dr. Santosh Mehrotra, Prof. of Economics, Centre for Labour and Informal Sector Studies,School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Stefan Helming, Country Director, GIZ and Ronnie Screwvala, Founder, UTV and Unilazer

The IGCC Award for outstanding contribution towards the promotion of Indo-German Economic Relations was given to TATA Consultancy Services Ltd. and to Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd.

The award for outstanding export performance by an Indo-German joint venture was given to TFL Quinn India Pvt. Ltd. and TrelleborgVibracoustic (India) Pvt. Ltd.

The Dr. Guenter Krueger Awards for Excellence, giving to an outstanding student of each of the Indo-German Training Centers (IGTC) was presented by Ambassador Steiner to Gokul Kannan A. (Bangalore), N. G. Renuka Rukmani (Chennai),  Shashank Chandrasekharan (Kolkata) and Lokegaonkar A.Y. Asmita (Mumbai). The award ceremony was followed by the lucky draw of the two free Lufthansa tickets.

The latest Indo-German statistics were also announced with Tamil Nadu overtaking Maharashtra as the most attractive state for German investments

Last year, by attracting the lion’s share of German investments into India of around US $571 million, and a 55% share, Tamil Nadu overtook Maharashtra as the most attractive destination for German investments. This region which was at 6th position in the previous year (2012-13), catapulted to the top position last year (2013-14). Maharashtra was in 2nd position with investments to the tune of US $126 million and a share of over 12%. Delhi and the surrounding region was the third most popular region (US $103 million, 9.9% share), followed by Karnataka (US $44.2 million, 4.3%) and West Bengal (US $30.6 million, 3%) in the 4th and 5th place respectively.
