SILK FAB starts from July 15 at the World Trade Centre Mumbai

A rare collection of India's best-known handlooms opens at the expo centre
Mumbai, July 11, 2016: An exhibition-cum-sale titled 'Silk Fab' of the National Handloom Development Corporation will be open for public from July 15, 11 am to 8 pm till 28th July, 2016 at the expo centre. The World Trade Centre Mumbai has been associated with 'Silk Fab' for the past nine years.  
As many as 150 agencies belonging to 15 states participating and they are from various government bodies, apex societies, handloom weavers’ societies and handloom agencies.
The handloom sector of India employs 65 lakh persons directly or indirectly.  The art of handloom weaving has traditional values attached to it and each region has exquisite varieties. The famous of silk products such as pochampally, muga silk, paithani, kosa silk, baluchuri, tussar...to name a few,  attracts customers across the globe thanks to their exclusives weaves, designs and traditional motifs.
Through these exhibition, the handloom agencies are not only marketing their products at reasonable rates, but are able to understand the customers choice with regard to colour, design and weaving for future improvement of the product.
All the exhibitors at the 'Silk Fab' have been encouraged to display the 'handloom mark' tag on the products and thus aim to improve the earnings of the handloom weaver community. The Indian government has launched a 'handloom mark' scheme for handloom quality products with an aim to give them a distinct identity, apart from highlighting their uniqueness. It also serves a guarantee for the buyer that product being purchased is genuinely hand-woven.
'Silk Fab' is an initiative of the Development Commissioner of Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, government of India, through National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC) to provide access to the handloom weavers to market their products directly to the consumers in various cities of India.
