PHOTONICS INDIA 2012 commences in Mumbai

Mumbai: LASER WORLD of PHOTONICS INDIA 2012, the three day exhibition on the photonics technolgy started today at the Bombay Exhibition Centre. More than 123 exhibitors from 15 countries with pavilions from Germany, China, Japan and Lithuania and with over 3,500 visitors attended the event.
The exhibition was inaugurated with the ‘lightning the lamp’ ceremony by Mr. Michael Siebert, Honourable Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany and Mr. Norbert Bargmann, Deputy CEO, Messe München International. During the inauguration, Mr. Michael Siebert, Honourable Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany said “Photonics is truly the technology of the 21st century. The global Photonics market is set to grow by almost 20%. Many eyes across the world are fixed on India due to its expertise in the fields of telecommunication, electronics, manufacturing, automotive, among others, and the technology on display will help accelerate these processes which in turn will accelerate the growth story of the country.”
Also present were Dr. Bishnu Pal, Chairman, Optical society of India; Dr. P.K. Gupta, President, India Laser Association; Dr. Nampoori, General secretary, Photonics Society of India; Dr. Lechner – Director of Business Unit New Technology, Messe München International; Mr. Darryl Dasilva – CEO, MMI India and Ms Claudia Sixl – Exhibition Group Director, Messe München International.
Dr. P.K Gupta , President, India Laser Association emphasized on the need for policy reforms in Laser and Photonics Industry and said “Though India is taking huge strides in the field of Lasers, the applications are confined to inhouse research, which is mostly captive and is unavailable to the masses. Waking up to this fact, the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, is taking adequate measures in bridging this gap and promote the Industry as a key growth enabler.”
LASER WORLD of PHOTONICS India 2012 is supported by The Optical Society of India, the Indian Laser Association, Photonics Society of India, OptecNet Germany and The Optical Society. LASER WORLD of PHOTONICS India 2012, is a part of the worldwide network of Messe Munich International’s photonics trade fairs, with Mumbai being one of the most important cluster regions for photonics in India . The show will now be held annually in winter here at the Bombay Exhibition Centre.
