Reliance General Insurance exposes insurance fraud in a Third Party Claim

by Priya Jadhav

In a recent incidence, Reliance General Insurance (RGI) has uncovered a fraudulent Third-Party (TP) Injury claim following an accident involving a pedestrian and a bus registered under the number MH-43-H-1429. The incident was promptly reported to the police, resulting in the seizure of the vehicle and its documents.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the insured had procured a policy under an incorrect class, opting for Two-wheeler insurance instead of the appropriate Bus coverage, likely to save on premiums. Shockingly, the insured had also fabricated the policy document to falsely represent it as valid for the Bus.

Further scrutiny of the agent's business data exposed a concerning trend, with 200 additional policies incorrectly registered as Two-wheelers despite being associated with alternate vehicle classes at the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

The matter escalated when an FIR was filed at Shil Dyghar Police Station, Kalyan, leading to the arrest of the vehicle owner on charges under sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, and 34 under Indian Penal Code. (FIR Copy Attached). The insured has been thereafter remanded for three days as the investigation continues to unfold.

This incident highlights the severity of insurance fraud, not only jeopardizing individual cases but also posing a threat to the overall credibility and future of insurance.

In reaffirmation of its commitment to upholding the integrity of insurance processes, RGI will fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies to address instances of fraud. Such dedication is essential to maintain consumer trust and safeguard the future of the insurance industry.
