Between Sets on a Paddle Court, a Snack Break That Wasn't the Usual Bar or Chips

 by Priyanka Jadhav

Most paddle courts have the same routine between games, someone reaching for a water bottle, someone else pulling out a protein bar or a packet of chips from their bag. On one such evening, a player reached for something else instead, a small pouch, ten grams, freeze-dried mango. Within a few minutes, half the group at the next court over was asking what it was.

That's usually how it goes with a snack that doesn't announce itself. No big packaging, no logo loud enough to spot from across the court, just a small pouch that got passed around during a changeover because someone was curious enough to ask.

The answer was simple enough to fit on the back of the pack. One ingredient, the fruit itself, freeze-dried rather than fried, with nothing added and nothing taken out beyond the water. No added sugar, no preservatives, gluten-free, vegan by default, because there was never room in the pack for anything else. The brand is Frudo, and it comes in six flavours, banana, mango, custard apple, pineapple, strawberry and jamun.

For a mid-game snack, the size mattered as much as the taste. At ten grams, it disappeared in a handful of bites, light enough not to sit heavy through the next set, unlike a full bar or a fistful of chips that can slow a player down more than help them. The crunch, several players pointed out, was closer to a chip than anything resembling regular dried fruit, which was probably why it worked so well as a between-games snack in the first place.

By the end of the evening, more than one player had asked where to find it, assuming it was something only available at speciality stores. It isn't. Frudo sells through Instagram, Amazon, Flipkart, and directly at frudo.in, the same six flavours available well beyond any one court or evening.

It's a small, familiar kind of discovery story, less about a campaign and more about one person's snack choice catching someone else's attention between sets, the way word of mouth has always worked, just now happening over a paddle net instead of anywhere else.
