Mumbai, India | 06 November 2025: EdelGive and Hurun India released the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025. This is the 12th annual ranking of the most generous individuals in India. This is our attempt to highlight India’s remarkable givers and to capture the growing importance of individual givers in India's philanthropic landscape towards nation-building. Donations were measured by the value of their cash or cash equivalents from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025. This is the twelfth year of the list, and it follows on from the Hurun India Rich List 2025, a ranking of 1,692 wealthiest individuals in India, released in October 2025 for the fourteenth year.

EdelGive Foundation and Hurun India have partnered in the creation of this report to understand philanthropic giving in the country through a data, evidence and geographic lens. This analysis throws light on trends in the sector and showcases the areas of strength and opportunities that exist. Through this report, we aim to bring to notice the strength of the social sector and access areas that require further growth.

This year’s EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025 features individuals who have donated INR 5 Cr or more during the period under review.

Speaking at the launch, Naghma Mulla, CEO, EdelGive Foundation, said, “As India’s economy continues to grow, so too must our collective commitment to inclusive and equitable development. Through our work, we have seen the transformative power of collaboration. No single organisation can address the complex, interwoven needs at our grassroots; true impact emerges when we come together, pooling our knowledge, capital, and compassion. As we celebrate another year of India’s most committed philanthropists with the EDELGIVE HURUN INDIA PHILANTHROPY LIST 2025, we are reminded that diverse models harness our collective potential and that when funders align their giving with their deepest convictions, they bring not just resources but resolve and innovation to the table. We are, as always, proud to partner with Hurun India to celebrate the commitment and generosity required to ensure that India’s growth story is not just one of prosperity, but of shared progress and universal access to opportunity”.

Commenting on the launch, Anas Rahman Junaid, Founder and Chief Researcher, Hurun India, said,

“Indian philanthropy is being shaped by four key wealth-creation groups, as reflected in the EDELGIVE HURUN INDIA PHILANTHROPY LIST 2025. First, multi-generation family businesses such as the Ambanis continue to play a dominant role. Second, new-age entrepreneurs and young leaders like Binny Bansal and the Infosys co-founders — who entered the list this year — are building a strong culture of giving and setting the tone for sustained future philanthropy. Ritesh Agarwal of PRISM, though not yet on the list, is already laying the groundwork for long-term philanthropic engagement. Third, NRIs like Yusuff Ali are increasingly giving back to their home states, deepening local impact. And finally, capital providers — VC and PE leaders like Prashanth Prakash — are driving a shift towards more institutional, cause-led philanthropy. As India evolves into a truly wealthy nation, it is poised to become a global role model in philanthropy — living by the ancient Indian ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, ‘the world is one family.’”

“While wealth creation remains central to India’s economic growth, philanthropy plays an equally vital role in ensuring that this progress translates into inclusive prosperity. We are proud to have partnered with EdelGive Foundation for nearly a decade to evolve the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List into a journal chronicling India’s inspiring journey towards a culture of giving”, concluded Anas Rahman Junaid.

The top 10 individuals in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025 collectively contributed INR 5,834 Cr, a 26% year-on-year increase, accounting for 56% of the total donations. The Hinduja family, Sudhir Mehta & Samir Mehta, and Cyrus S. Poonawalla & Adar Poonawalla entered the top 10, securing the 7th, 9th, and 10th positions, respectively. Six of these top donors have focused their CSR efforts primarily on education, underscoring a strong commitment to enhancing access to quality learning and supporting educational initiatives across India.
