Tanishaa Mukerji Sets A Great Example At The International Coastal Cleanup Day Event by My Green Society and Stamp Foundation, Jackie Shroff graces the event as 'Chief Guest'

Tanishaa Mukerji has always been a front-runner when it comes to taking up causes that are relevant to society. The actress was present at the International Coastal Cleanup Day Event by Stamp Foundation and My Green Society on 16th September at 9, Carter Road, Amphitheatre, Bandra. The event started around 9AM in the morning and Tanishaa who’s the founder of Stamp Foundation was joined by Jackie Shroff as an honourable chief guest as for this wonderful initiative. Also present was Kobbi Shoshani, honourable Consul General of Israel to Mumbai.

On this monumental day, as many as 500 NSS students from various colleges across the city supported the event and made their presence felt. The goal of the initiative is to influence and inspire people towards a cleaner, healthier, and sustainable future for the coastal ecosystem. Regarding the event, Tanishaa says,

"Not many are perhaps aware that the mangroves absorb twice as much carbon. That's why, there's an immediate need for fencing around the Bandra mangroves. This is a genuinely serious issue as everytime we engage in a clean-up activity, the plastic keeps returning from the ocean. Unfortunately, these mangroves haven't been fenced off from the ocean yet like the other mangroves in the city. The ocean throws plastic and debris that’s dumped there. Hence, the mangroves here need fencing and debris removal which is strangling their roots.”

She further added, "If we ourselves don’t create impact with our actions, how can we expect others to make an impact and change towards the betterment of the environment? Mother nature is a part of us and hence, we cannot afford to take it for granted. Civic sense is extremely important and we need to understand the accurate way of disposing garbage. Also, it is important to keep a regular check on organisations that are producing a lot of garbage. Everything right from the quantum to the procedure of their disposal should be monitored and that's how we can have a better and greener environment to breathe.”

She concluded by saying, "I am truly touched with the amount of efforts that these young students are taking. They are our future and it's so pleasing to see them being aware. We are headed in the right direction and that's why, every year, the number of students supporting us keeps on increasing. The youth of today is activated to make an impact and change. That's why, when we take them to the mangroves, it's such a learning curve for them to understand the amount of trash we are creating on a daily basis and the hazardous effect that it has when it goes to the ocean. Awareness is the first step towards changing anything and no change happens overnight. I am glad the process has begun and it is expected to get only better with time with more and more youngsters joining us. I am grateful to everyone for trusting me and my vision towards creating a better place to live in. Lastly, I want to thank Jackie Shroff and Kobbi Shoshani for inspiring the students and being such strong supporters of the environment. They led by example with their visionary approach.”
