Kulkarni wins singles and doubles titles

Mumbai: Abhijeet Kulkarni claimed a double winning the singles and doubles titles in the TSTTA (The Suburban Table Tennis Association) organized Sports Journalists Table Tennis Tournament and played at the PTKS (Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul), Vile Parle.

In the singles final, Kulkarni got the better of firm favourite Amol Karhadkar winning in three games at 11-6, 10-12 and 11-4. Earlier, in the semi-finals, Kulkarni defeated Gordon D’Costa 11-7 and 11-8 and Karhadkar prevailed over Sherwin Crasto in three games at 9-11, 11-2 and 11-4.

In the doubles final, Kulkarni along with Amit Kamat combined to beat the pair of Karhadkar and Santosh Bane by posting a 12-10, 6-11 and 11-7 win. In the semi-final the pair of Kulkarni and Kamat got the better of Gordon D’Costa and Ehtiram Ali winning in two games at 11-5 and  11-7, while Karhadkar and Bane overcame the challenge from Crasto and Vijay Bane clinching a 11-8 and 11-6 win.

Results - Singles – Semi-finals: Amol Karhadkar bt Sherwin Crasto 9-11, 11-2, 11-4; Abhijeet Kulkarni bt Gordon D’Costa 11-7, 11-8.

Final: Abhijeet Kulkarni bt Amol Karhadkar 11-6, 10-12, 11-4.

Doubles – Semi-finals: Amol Karhadkar/Santosh Bane bt Sherwin Crasto/Vijay Bane 11-8, 11-6; Abhijeet Kulkarni/Amit Kamat bt Ehtiram Ali/Gordon D’Costa 11-5, 11-7.

Final: Abhijeet Kulkarni/Amit Kamat bt Amol Karhadkar/Santosh Bane 12-10, 6-11, 11-7.
